Imagine hearing those words from your friends as they gaze upon your
newest
masterpiece. How great it feels to produce beauty from our own skills.
There's something
in us from childhood that just longs to hear those delicious words of
praise, "You did a
great job on that." It never gets old. We never hear it enough. And it
sure makes us smile.

I think there is a budding creative in all of us, begging to be set
free. There used to be ads
on matchbooks (way back when smoking was more in vogue) that offered
art instruction
by correspondence school. "Learn to Draw" was their call. Those ads ran
for decades. The
schools are still operating too. People love to create for others. And
they love the rewards.

Today, digital graphics are where it's at.

And Photoshop is the tool of choice for the modern digital
photographer.

Photoshop was originally designed for professional use it, but that
shouldn't keep you from
creating stunning works too.

Let me share an analogy if you will. I found it's a great way to show
the simple way my
"Photoshop Recipe Cards" work.

You like to eat out right? We all enjoy the delicious, mouth-watering
taste of our favorite
dish, flavored with those special herbs and seasonings, and prepared by
a well trained
chef. We're so happy those with a passion for cooking spend years in
culinary school
learning to create those special treats for us. You know, the ones that
make our taste buds
dance with delight. Flavors that imprint on our mind so deep we never
forget them.

But we don't go hungry when we can't eat out.

We learn to cook our own food. When we want to make something a bit
extraordinary for
ourselves, our family, or to impress our party guests we break out the
cookbook or recipe
cards. We don't enroll in culinary school or spend a fortune on cooking
classes!
We simply use the well documented instruction from masters who
understand and can
communicate to us how to prepare a special dish.

And then it's so much fun to do it ourselves!

It occurred to me one day, using Photoshop is very much like cooking.

We gather up the ingredients we need (in this case our photographs), we
follow a few
simple steps, in order, put in the necessary time, and "Ta-Da!" A
magnificent visual
masterpiece appears to delight our friends and family. Or client if
we're selling our work.

Instead of creating a mouth-watering feast for our pallet like we do
when cooking,
we create a visual feast for our eyes! With Photoshop.

And just as simply!

We don't want to learn Photoshop

...we just want to do it!

Is there anyone who's not busy these days?

Everyone dreads taking time to learn something new. We're impatient.
Our time is precious.
We need shortcuts. And plenty of them. Immediate gratification is the
only acceptable means.

And if you're looking to just do Photoshop instead of learning it,
you've come to the right
place. I was already a busy husband and father, with two young
daughters and a son in
college. I was working two jobs when I first discovered the enormous
artistic power of
Photoshop.

"Finally, I can be an artist!," I thought. I had always been interested
in art, but could
never get my hand to go along with my ambition. Instead of drawing or
painting like the
artists I watched on TV, my hand (the traitor!) seemed more happy to
mimic the scribbles
of a second grader.

rebel hand.

You see, when I learned I could take photographs
and turn them into art with Photoshop,
I no longer needed the cooperation or coordination
of my hand. It already knew how to use the keyboard
and mouse.

And that's all Photoshop required of it.

Trouble was, the only time I had to practice my new art skill was late
at night, after the
kids were in bed. I couldn't take classes, so I took to "Googling" the
internet for tutorials.
It was agony! Some of the tutorials took 20-30 minutes to show one
thing. By the time I
got through the video and tried to do what they showed I'd forget some
critical step and
have to watch the video again. And again. I was pulling my hair out in
frustration! All the
while muttering to myself (not screaming because it was late)...

"I don't have time for this!!!"

Then one night I got smart. I started jotting down notes while watching
the videos.

I documented each of the critical steps, in just enough words to
capture the process. No
more, no less. Bingo! I now had a shortcut for doing Photoshop.

I built up quite a collection of those note cards over time. I did
actually use index cards.
And had them organized so I could quickly grab the card I needed. In no
time at all I could create all those special Photoshop effects.
Repeatedly. With no effort at all.

ZORGIUM note to content providers: If you don't want your page to appear in Zorgium's search abstraction then put an exclusion for "Zorgium" in your web server's robots.txt file.
